No mesmo fim de semana em que fui a Lisboa para visitar a Feira do Livro, eu, a minha mãe e a minha cunhada acompanhámos o meu irmão e a minha sobrinha até ao Estádio Universitário. Ele foi fazer o seu jogging; nós fomos passear e apoiar a pequena S. no seu esforço por aprender a andar de bicicleta. A meio do passeio vi, lá ao longe, a Regina a ler encostada ao tronco de uma árvore e sorri satisfeita por ter saído de casa obstinadamente agarrada à câmara fotográfica. Também ela tinha saído de casa com o filho para ambos irem correr. Ele foi; já a Regina mudou de planos. Leitora assídua quando era solteira, admite que perdeu o contacto com os livros quando casou e os filhos nasceram. Felizmente, nos últimos tempos, tem retomado este hábito que tanto aprecia e diz andar sempre com um livro atrás, como se fosse uma mala ou as chaves de casa. Desta forma pode aproveitar cada bocadinho livre para se refugiar nas páginas de um livro. Naquela manhã lia "Vendidas", um relato verídico chocante sobre a violência e as humilhações a que foram submetidas duas irmãs casadas à força no Iémen.

In te same weekend I went to Lisbon to visit the book fair, my mother, my sister-in-law and I went together with my brother and my niece to the University Stadium. He went for a jog; we went for a walk and to support little S. in her effort to learn how to ride a bike. I was when I saw, far away, Regina leaning against a tree reading and I smiled, happy to have left home obstinately hanging to my camera. Regina had also left the house to go jogging with her son, but she changed her plans. Frequent reader when she was single, she admits to have lost contact with books when she got married and her children were born. Fortunately, in the recent time, she has been returning to this habit she enjoys so much and she always carries a book around with her, as if it was a purse or the house keys, so she can escape into the pages of a book whenever she as some free time. In the morning I met her, she was reading "A Promise to Nadia", a shocking true story about the violence and humiliation suffered by two sisters forced to marry in Yemen.

Já aqui escrevi algumas vezes sobre o quanto o Acordo Fotográfico mudou a minha vida para melhor. E na base de todas as coisas boas que me têm acontecido a propósito deste simples projeto estão as pessoas que tenho conhecido. Algumas, apenas de passagem, mas cujas mensagens recordo com ternura e cujas fotografias vou rever volta e meia; outras com as quais vou mantendo um contacto regular quer por email, quer nas redes sociais e que vou tendo a oportunidade de conhecer pessoalmente; outras, ainda, que chegaram para passar a fazer parte do meu dia a dia. É o caso da Inês. 

Embora vivamos no Porto há uns bons anos, eu e a Inês nunca nos tínhamos cruzado. A primeira vez que soube dela, foi em junho de 2012, estava eu de férias em Berlim. Na altura a Inês mantinha um blogue pessoal onde, a par de outras considerações, divulgava os vídeos que gravava com as suas impressões sobre os livros que ia lendo. Foi aí, nesse blogue, que escreveu sobre o Acordo Fotográfico e manifestou o desejo que um dia eu a encontrasse a ler num qualquer lugar da Invicta. Mas a vida quis muito mais do que um encontro esporádico e uma fotografia que registasse o momento. Para mim e para a Inês — que ainda antes de nos conhecermos pessoalmente me disse um dia que vivia um caso sério de paixão pela Literatura — a vida quis que acabássemos a desempenhar juntas esta linda profissão que é a de vender livros. 

O facto da Inês ser minha colega de trabalho poderia levar-vos a pensar que esta fotografia foi combinada, o que não é verdade. Eu, a Inês e a G. passamos a maior parte das nossas horas de almoço juntas, a deambular pela baixa do Porto, mas naquele dia a Inês não nos acompanhou. Preferiu ir ler, sem nos revelar exatamente onde. Foi no regresso ao trabalho que a encontrámos no mais provável dos lugares: o jardim da Cordoaria. "Hoje não me escapas!", disse-lhe, e fiz (finalmente!) a fotografia da Inês, num dos raros momentos em que que não lia ficção. Tinha consigo a "Poesia Reunida", de Maria do Rosário Pedreira, um livro que despertou grande curiosidade quando lhe passou pelas mãos, não tendo descansado enquanto não o comprou. Esta leitura foi também estimulada por um canal que a Inês segue no Youtube e que tem como grande objetivo para 2013 fazer com que as pessoas leiam mais poesia. Na altura em que falámos, a Inês disse-me que estava a gostar do livro, mas que ainda não sabia ao certo porquê. Habituada a ler e a refletir sobre livros de ficção e romances, talvez lhe faltassem as palavras certas para descrever o que sentia perante os poemas de Maria do Rosário Pedreira (que aqui entre nós, eu soube à posteriori, a impressionaram muito).

I have written here several times how much Acordo Fotográfico changed my life for better. And at the foundation of all good things that have been happening to me regarding this simple project are the people I have met. Some, just passing by, but whose messages I remember with tenderness and whose photos I see again once in a while; others with whom I keep in touch by email or on Facebook and that, sometimes, I have the opportunity to meet personally; and others, yet, came to be a part of my everyday life. That is the case of Inês. 

Although we both live at Porto for some years now, the path of Inês and mine had never crossed before. The first time I knew about her was in June 2012, during my holidays in Berlin. At that time Inês kept a personal blog where, among other considerations, she shared her videos with her opinions about the books she reads. It was there, on that blog, where she wrote about Acordo Fotográfico and expressed her desire that one day I might found her reading in some place of Invicta.* But life wanted much more than a sporadic encounter and than a picture to capture the moment. For me and for Inês — who even before we meet told me she had a huge passion for Literature — life wanted that we both ended up having this same beautiful profession that is selling books.

The fact that Inês is my co-worker might lead you to think that this is an arranged photo, which isn't true. Inês, G. and I spend most of our lunch hours together, wandering in down town Porto, but in that day Inês was not with us. She'd rather go reading, without telling us exactly where. It was on the way back to work that we found her in the most probable place of all: the Cordoaria's Garden. "Today you won't get away from me!", I told her, and I (finally!) took her picture, curiously in one of the rare moments she was reading poetry. She had with her "Poesia Reunida", from Maria do Rosário Pedreira, a book that aroused great curiosity when she once had it in her hands, so didn't rest until she bought it. This reading was also encouraged by a Youtube channel Inês watches regularly and which purpose is to make people to read more poetry in 2013. At the time we spoke, Inês told me she was enjoying the book but she didn't know yet exactly why. Used to read and reflect about fiction or novels, she was missing the right words do describe what she felt about the poetry of Maria do Rosário Pedreira (that I knew, afterwards, impressed her very much).

Marina & Patti Smith

Madrid é aqui tão perto e no entanto estive 18 anos sem lá ir. Voltei recentemente e a cidade que recordava daquele ano — em que, ainda estudante universitária, frequentei o Curso de Verão Para Estrangeiros da Escola Diplomática de Madrid — não me desiludiu. A capital espanhola, apesar da crise, continua a transbordar de vida e visitá-la é uma forma de terapia altamente revigorante. 

Depois de pousar a mala no quarto de um hostal em plena Gran Vía — ¡por supuesto! —, segui pela Plaza de Callao em direção ao Monasterio de Las Descalzas Reales, um dos poucos monumentos ditos obrigatórios que, há 18 anos, me tinha escapado. Não tinha caminhado dois minutos quando logo ali, na escadas do Cine Callao, vi a Marina a ler "Just Kids" ("Apenas Miúdos"), de Patti Smith. Este livro, de carácter autobiográfico, tem como personagem central o fotógrafo norteamericano Robert  Mapplethorpe com quem Patti Smith viveu entre 1967 e 1974, antes que este assumisse a sua homossexualidade — facto que não impediu de todo que ambos tivessem mantido uma relação de amizade muito próxima até à morte do fotógrafo, em 1989. Contou-me a Marina que este livro é muito especial para si, porque viveu em Nova Iorque algum tempo e lê-lo era uma forma de revisitar todos os lugares que conheceu naquela cidade incrível. Mas este foi também o livro que, antes de regressar a Espanha, ofereceu a um amigo com quem viveu uma relação semelhante à de Patti Smith e Mapplethorpe. Com uma diferença, no entanto, que a Marina registou pelo seu próprio punho, em jeito de dedicatória, no livro ofertado: "... except you're not gay."

Madrid is here so close and still I spent 18 years without going there. I recently went back and the city that I remembered from that year — when, as a student college, I attended the Summer Course for Foreigners from the Diplomatic School of Madrid — didn't disappoint me. The Spanish Capital, in spite of the economic crisis, still continues to overflow of life and to visit it is a form of invigorating therapy.

After I left my luggage at the hostal room right at Gran Via — ¡por supuesto! —, I went through Plaza de Callao towards Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, one of the few "must visit" monuments that I missed 18 years ago. I hadn't walk for two minutes when right there, at the stairs of Cine Callao, I spotted Marina reading "Just Kids", from Patti Smith. This autobiographic book has as a central character the north-american photographer Robert  Mapplethorpe, with whom Patti Smith lived between 1967 and 1974, before he assumed his homosexuality — a fact that didn't stop them to maintain a very close friendship until the death of the photographer, in 1989. Marina told me this book is very special to her, because she lived in New York for some time and reading it was a way to revisit all the places she knew in that amazing city. But this was also the book that, before returning to Spain, she offered to a very special friend with whom she experienced a very similar relationship to the one of Patti Smith and Robert  Mapplethorpe. With a difference, however, that Marina registered by her own hand, like a dedication, in the given book: "... except you're not gay."

Linda & Saramago

Sentada aos pés daquela que é a minha estátua preferida em toda a cidade do Porto — "A Juventude", na Avenida dos Aliados —, Linda lia "A Viagem do Elefante", um romance que lhe foi recomendado por um amigo e que era, na verdade, o seu primeiro livro de José Saramago. Por se tratar de um autor de uma geração muito distinta da sua, Linda achava que não iria gostar do romance: receava achá-lo muito "pomposo" em parte devido ao título, que lhe parecia ser uma metáfora. Ficou, por isso, muito surpreendida quando constatou que o livro relatava literalmente a viagem de um elefante e que a linguagem com que a história estava escrita era acessível e coloquial, até, como se se tratasse da voz do povo e não da de um erudito. E foi assim, contra todas as expectativas iniciais, que Linda deu por si rendida ao livro e a apreciar em particular a forma irónica como Saramago retrata a mentalidade portuguesa.

Sitting at the feet of my favorite statue in all of Porto — "The Youth", at Avenida dos Aliados —, Linda read "The Elephant's Journey", a novel recommended by a friend that was actually her first book of José Saramago. Because he was an author from a very different generation from hers, Linda thought she wouldn't like the novel: she was afraid of finding it too "pompous" mostly due to the title that seemed to be a metaphor. So she was very surprised when she realized that the book literally narrated the journey of an elephant and that the language used ti write the story was accessible and colloquial, even, as if it was the voice of the people and not the voice of a scholar. And so, against all the initial expectations, Linda found herself surrendered to the book and particularly enjoying the ironic way how Saramago portraits the Portuguese mentality.

Ismael & Mizuna

Por questões profissionais, o Isamel é sobretudo leitor habitual de livros técnicos. Já à hora de almoço, para passar o tempo, procura livros de leitura fácil que lhe proporcionem um bom momento de entretenimento, tarefa que "As Profecias de Nostradamus", um livro que considerou do género dos de Dan Brown, parecia cumprir na perfeição. Fotografei-o no Quintal com a a gata Mizuna ao colo, a anfitriã mais simpática e mais mimalha que alguma vez conheci: recebe-nos com um miado doce mal abrimos a porta da loja e salta-nos para o regaço assim que nos sentamos num dos sofás.

Due to professional issues, Ismael mainly reads technical books. But at lunch, to spend some time, he looks for easy reading books that provide him an entertaining moment, a task that "The Nostradamus Prophecies", a book he finds similar to those of dan Brown, seemed to fulfill with perfection. I took is picture at Quintal Bioshop with the cat Mizuna on his lap, the nicest and sweetest host I ever met: she welcomes you with a sweet meow  when we barely open the shop's door and jumps to our lap as soon as we sit in one of the couches.

Miguel e a Física TeóricaMiguel and the Theoretical Physics

À hora de almoço de um dia de maio que tinha muito pouco de primaveril, fotografei o Miguel a ler no jardim do Palácio de Cristal, esse lugar no Porto que tantos leitores e tanto assunto tem fornecido ao Acordo Fotográfico. O Miguel é mestrando em Física Teórica e naquele início de tarde estudava para a disciplina de Complementos de Física da Matéria Condensada, um assunto que requer persistência e tempo para ser entendido, mas sobre o qual há já muitos autores portugueses a escrever, o que facilita o acesso à informação. Ainda assim, o livro que lia não era português, mas sim uma edição indiana de  "Solid State Physics" com a chancela da Cengage Learning. Disse-me o Miguel que o livro em si, enquanto objeto, deixava muito a desejar, sobretudo porque o papel era de má qualidade, o que de início dificultou a leitura. Depois acostumou-se. É que aquela era a edição mais barata que tinha encontrado através do Bookfinder.com, um serviço online que procura o melhor preço por entre os 150 milhões de livros novos e usados à venda na internet.

At lunchtime of a day in May that had very few of spring, I photographed Miguel reading at the Palácio de Cristal garden, the place in Porto that has provided so many readers and so many topics to Acordo Fotográfico. Miguel is master's in Theoretical Physics and in that beginning of the afternoon he was studying Complements of Condensed Matter in Physics, a subject that requires persistence and time to be understood, but about which there are already many Portuguese authors to write, which facilitates the access to information. Still, the book he was reading wasn't Portuguese, but an Indian edition of "Solid State Physics" with the seal of Cengage Learning. Miguel told me that the book, as an object, wasn't very good, mostly because the paper was of poor quality, which, at first, made the reading more difficult. But he had to get used to it once this was the cheaper edition he had found through Bookfinder.com, an online service that finds the best price among 150 million of new and used books available for sale on the Internet.

Joana & Samantha

O meu projeto na Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett terminou com uma fotografia que registou, curiosamente, o momento em que a Joana e a Samantha — atriz e cenógrafa, respetivamente — davam os primeiros passos na concretização de uma ideia: promover o livro, a leitura e a criatividade junto de crianças do ensino pré-escolar e do primeiro ciclo. A Joana e a Samantha conheceram-se num workshop de teatro, aperceberam-se que tinham muitos interesses em comum e a vontade de trabalhar juntas não tardou a surgir. Ambas pretendem unir os seus esforços e a sua experiência nas respetivas áreas de formação para, a propósito de um livro, levar os miúdos a desenvolver atividades de exploração da história lida. Criar cenários, construir marionetas ou, até, cozinhar são algumas das experiências com as quais pretendem levar as crianças a explorar o seu lado mais criativo.

Se tudo correr conforme o planeado, as fotografias que tirei na BMAG entre março e abril deste ano estarão expostas no Porto em novembro próximo. Assim que tiver informação mais concreta acerca dessa nova exposição, dar-vos-ei mais detalhes aqui e no Facebook.

My project at Almeida Garrett Municipal Library ended with a picture that captured, curiously, the moment when Joana and Samantha — actress and scenographer, respectively — were giving their first steps in putting an idea at work: to promote books, reading and creativity among young children. Joana and Samantha met each other at a Theater workshop, realized that they had several common interests and the will to work together soon came up. Both want to unite their efforts and experiences in their respective training areas to, regarding a book, bring kids to develop exploration activities base on the story they read. Create scenaries, build puppets or even cook are some of the experiences with which they want to bring kids to explore their most creative side. 

If all goes as planed, the pictures I took at AGML between March and April of this year will be exhibited in Porto next November. As soon as I have more information about this new exhibition I will give you more details here and on Facebook.

Quando dei por terminada a visita à Feira do Livro de Lisboa desafiei a minha mãe a descer a Avenida da Liberdade até aos Restauradores em ritmo de passeio, coisa que eu não fazia, se não me falha a memória, desde o dia 12 de março de 2011, quando participei na manifestação "Geração à Rasca". Foi logo ali na rotunda do Marquês do Pombal que me encontrei com a Neuza, que lia junto a uma paragem enquanto aguardava pelo seu autocarro. Infelizmente, o 746 da Carris chegou mesmo no momento que me apresentei e lhe pedi a fotografia, pelo que não pudemos conversar muito (o que me faz recordar o meu encontro com a Nancy). Tempo, apenas, para saber que a Neuza aprecia ler e que estava a gostar muito de "Na Sombra do Desejo".

When I ended the visit to the Lisbon Book Fair I challenged my mother to walk down Avenida da Liberdade to Restauradores, something I didn't do, if I remember right, since the 12th of March 2011, when I joined the "Geração à Rasca" demonstration. It was right there, at the Marquês do Pombal roundabout, that I met Neuza reading next to a bus stop. Unfortunately, the 746 bus arrived right at the moment that I introduced myself and was asking to take her picture, so we couldn't talk very much (which reminds me of my encounter with Nancy). Just enough time to know that Neuza enjoys reading and that she was liking a lot "Lover Revealed".

Anne Marie & Paulo Coelho

Oito meses! A Anne Marie viajou por toda a Europa durante oito meses! A maior parte desse tempo, andou por aí sozinha — uma experiência que adorou e que recomenda —, à exceção de um momento muito especial que partilhou com uns amigos: o Caminho de Santiago. Foi no seguimento dessa experiência que surgiu a vontade de ler "O Diário de Um Mago", o livro onde Paulo Coelho relata a sua própria aventura no Caminho de Santiago. Queria a Anne Marie que este fosse o seu primeiro livro de Paulo Coelho, mas quis a vida que acontecesse de outra forma, talvez mais acertada... Por muito que tivesse procurado, esta jovem alemã não encontrou qualquer exemplar de "O Diário de Um Mago" em inglês. Encontrou, sim, um exemplar de "O Alquimista" à venda num alfarrabista da baixa do Porto por apenas 1 Euro. Era esse o livro que lia quando a fotografei no jardim da Cordoaria, o livro que a Anne Marie acabou por admitir ser perfeito para a fase da vida em que se encontrava, uma vez que também protagonista daquela história parte numa grande viagem. Estava, disse ela, a "adorar este livro fantástico, de leitura fácil, mas profundo." 

No dia a seguir ao nosso encontro, a Anne Marie regressou a Berlim, certa de que não demoraria muito a partir de novo. Assim são os viajantes.

Eight months! Anne Marie traveled throughout Europe for eight months! Most of the time, she wandered by herself — an experience she loved and recommends —, except for one very special moment that she shared with some friends: the Route of Santiago de Compostela. It was after that journey that she had the desire to read "The Pilgrimage", the book where Paulo Coelho writes about his experience in that same route. Anne Marie wanted this book to be her first of Paulo Coelho, but life wanted different, perhaps a more wise way... As much as  she searched for, this young German couldn't find any copy of "The Pilgrimage". She did find, however, a copy of "The Alchemist" for sale at a second-hand bookseller downtown Porto for 1 Euro only. That was the book she was reading when I took her picture at Cordoaria's garden, the book that Anne Marie admitted to be perfect for the life stage she was at, once the main character in that story also leaves in a big journey. She was, as she said, "loving this fantastic book, easy to read, but deep."

The day after our encounter, Anne Marie went back to Berlin, certain that it wouldn't take her long to leave again. So are travellers.

Manuel João, Gilles & Felix

O Manuel João é estudante de cinema e na tarde em que o conheci estava compenetradíssimo na leitura de uma obra de referência para o seu curso: "Mil Planaltos", de Gilles Deleuze e Felix Guattari. Publicado em 1980, este texto é considerado uma das maiores obras filosóficas do século XX e é imprescindível para quem procura saber mais sobre a estética do cinema, área em que Gilles Deleuze era particularmente conceituado. No decorrer da nossa curta conversa, um dos aspetos do livro que o Manuel João fez questão de salientar foi a sua enorme complexidade e o seu difícil entendimento, o que o obrigava a uma leitura vagarosa.

Manuel João is a film student and in the afternoon that I met him he was extremely focused in reading a reference work to his course: "A Thousand Plateaus", from Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. Published in 1980, this text is considered one of the greatest philosophical works of the 20th century and it is indispensable for those who seek to know more about movies aesthetics, an area where Gilles Deleuze was particularly prestigious. In the course of our short conversation, one of the aspects of the book that Manuel João insisted to emphasize was its enormous complexity and its difficult understanding, which forced him to read slowly.

Sandra à descoberta de SandraSandra at the discovery of Sandra

Já não me lembro ao certo se a Hora do Conto já tinha acabado ou se ainda estaria por começar. Só sei que na sala de leitura dos mais pequenos, na Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett, o reboliço era muito. Ainda assim, sentada num pequeno banco junto a uma mesa redonda tomada de assalto por papéis e lápis de cor, uma mulher mantinha-se alheia à confusão e desfrutava em paz da leitura de alguns livros. Não pude deixar de me aproximar.

A Sandra, que estava na companhia do marido e das três filhas, diz-se "cliente habitual" da biblioteca, um lugar que adora e onde se sente como em casa. Ali escolhe os livros por intuição: olha para eles e mesmo sem lhes tocar sabe que aqueles são os livros indicados para a fase da vida em que se encontra. E porque na altura em que a conheci estava num período de autoconhecimento, os livros que chamaram por si, os "livros certos", como afirmou, foram: "Cosmos. Ordem. Matriz", de Maria Flávia de Monsaraz; "A Alma Iluminada", de Alexandra Solnado e "O Livro da Longevidade", de Edward Claflin. Espiritualidade, Saúde, Educação e Natureza. Estes eram, portanto, os temas de eleição e os três títulos seriam requisitados para que pudesse estudá-los atentamente. A Sandra acredita que o ser humano é muito mais do que aquilo que aparenta ser, por isso sente a necessidade de partir à descoberta dessas outras dimensões mais profundas. "A ideia", disse-me, "é estudar-me enquanto um todo ao mesmo tempo que tento aprender cada vez mais sobre as minhas diversas partes".

I can't remember exactly if the Story Time was already over or if it was to begin. All I know is that at the kids reading room, at the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library, the agitation was huge. Nevertheless, sitting in a small bench next to a round table taken over by papers and crayons, a woman was unaware of the confusion and peacefully enjoyed the reading of some books. I had to get close.

Sandra, who was with her husband and their tree daughters, says she is a "regular" at the Library , a place that she adores and where she feels like home. There she chooses books by intuition: she looks at them and even without touching them she knows that those are the right books for the life stage she is at the moment. And because she was in a period of self-knowledge when I met her, the books that called for her, the "right books", as she said, were: "Cosmos. Order. Matrix", from Maria Flávia de Monsaraz; "The Enlightened Soul", from Alexandra Solnado and "Age Protectors: Stop Aging Now!", from Edward Claflin. Spirituality,  Health, Education and Nature. So, this were the themes elected and the tree books would be requested so she could study them closely at home. Sandra believes that the human being is much more than what is shown, so she feels the need to go in the discovery of these other deeper sides. "The idea", she told me, "is to study myself as an all while trying to learn more about my different parts."

Luís & Paul Krugman

O Luís é economista e a crise que vivemos suscita-lhe particular interesse. Foi por isso que, na última Feira do Livro de Lisboa, comprou "Acabem Com Esta Crise Já!", de Paul Krugman, autor galardoado com o Prémio Nobel da Economia em 2008. O Luís tem vindo a seguir com atenção o trabalho deste economista norte-americano, expoente do pensamento económico liberal nos Estados Unidos e cuja voz é cada vez mais ouvida no que diz respeito às soluções para acabar com a atual crise. Sobre este título em concreto ainda não podia adiantar muito porque tinha acabado de comprá-lo no stand da Editorial Presença e ia apenas na página 4.

Luís is an economist and the depression we are living causes him great interest. That was why, at the last Lisbon Book Fair, he bought "End This Depression Now!", from Paul Krugman, an author rewarded with the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2008. Luís has been following very closely the work of this north-American economist, exponent of the liberal economic thought in the United States and whose voice is increasingly heard in respect to the solutions to end the actual economic crisis. About this book in particular he couldn't say much once he had just bought it at the stand of Editorial Presença and was only at page 4.

Estávamos em março e o Hélder estudava para o exame de especialidade em Psiquiatria na Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett, um local que raramente frequenta, mas cuja tranquilidade aprecia imenso. Nas mãos tinha o livro "Elementos de Psicopatologia Explicativa", editado pela Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e que no seu entender tem várias qualidades: é de um autor português, está bem escrito (o que torna a leitura agradável) e apresenta uma perspectiva diferente da visão tradicional que se tem da psiquiatria. E então, Hélder, correu bem esse exame?

It was March and Hélder was studying for his Psychiatry Specialty Exam at the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library, a place he rarely attends but which tranquility he enjoys so much. In his hands was "Elementos da Psicopatologia Explicativa", published by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, a book that in Hélder's point of view has several qualities: it is from a Portugueses Author, it is well written (making the reading so pleasant) and it shows a different perspective from the traditional vision that one has of Psychiatry. So, Hélder, how did the exam turned out?

Sob a vigilância atenta de Almeida Garrett, que se vê pintado em pano de fundo, o Carlos consultava "O Toque Clássico - A Arte de Liderar de Homero a Hemingway". No curso que frequenta, e no âmbito de uma disciplina sobre gestão de pessoas, o Carlos foi desafiado a fazer um trabalho sobre um líder conhecido. A sua escolha recaiu sobre Steve Jobs, mas antes de avançar para a redação desse trabalho decidiu ler um pouco mais sobre teoria da liderança. Era a primeira vez que ia à Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett. O momento ficou registado.

Under the watchful eye of Almeida Garrett, that we can see painted in the distance, Carlos consulted "The Classic Touch: Lessons in Leadership From Homer to Hemingway". In the course he attends, and inserted in a subject about people management, Carlos was challenged to do a work about a well-known leader. His choice fell on Steve Jobs, but before he moved along to the writing of the work, he decided to read a little bit more about the theory of leadership. It was his first time at Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. The moment was registered.
