Ainda em Madrid, um lugar onde nunca tinha estado: o Templo de Debod. Este templo, oferecido pelo governo egípcio aos engenheiros e arqueólogos espanhóis que ajudaram a resgatar vários tesouros antes que fossem engolidos pelas águas da Barragem de Assuão (a maior barragem de África e uma das maiores do mundo), fica situado no Parque del Oeste, numa zona elevada de onde se tem uma vista desafogada sobre parte da capital espanhola. Na manhã em que o visitei, ainda pela fresca, eram muitos os madrilenos que aproveitavam aquele lugar para caminhar, correr, brincar com as crianças ou passear os cães. E havia, pois está claro, quem aproveitasse para apanhar um pouco de sol enquanto lia. Era o que fazia a Maria Victoria, uma leitora ávida, que lê tudo o que possa, mas que tem uma particular predileção por policiais e thrillers bem negros. Era o caso de "Serpientes en el Paraíso", de Alicia Giménez Bartlett, um policial que explora a frágil fronteira entre a aparência e a verdade, a amizade e a traição, e do qual a Maria Victoria estava a gostar mutíssimo.

This temple, offered by the Egyptian government to the Spanish engineers and archaeologists who helped to retrieve several treasures before they were swallowed by the Aswan dam (the biggest dam of Africa and one of the biggest in the world), is located in Park del Oeste, in a higher ground where we can have a panoramic view over part of the Spanish capital. In the morning of my visit, when the weather was still fresh, there were many Madrilenians that took advantage of that place to walk, jog, play with their children or walk their dogs. And there was, of course, some who enjoyed the sun while reading. That was what Maria Victoria was doing, an avid reader, who reads everything she can, but has a particular predilection for detective novels and really dark thrillers. That was the case of "Serpientes en el Paraíso, by Alicia Giménez Bartlett, a detective novel that explores the thin line between appearance and truth, friendship and betrayal, and that Maria Victoria way enjoying very much.
