O Autor & O Livro - VI
The Author & The Book - VI

“We have to be a bit militant in meeting each other face to face and not submit ourselves only to the keyboard.” It was like this that Nuno Camarneiro started his intervention on the first salon promoted by the newly opened Literary Book Club of Gaia, whose meetings are held on the bookstore Os Velhotes (at least until we all can fit in there). With only 35 years, Nuno Camarneiro was the winner of the LeYa’s 2012 Award with the book "Debaixo de Algum Céu", his second novel. Graduated in Physics Engineering and a PHD in Sciences Applied to Cultural Heritage, this young author, who claims to suffer “from the sin of curiosity”, already tried many other things in life: music, dance and theater, for instance, are a part of his eclectic curriculum. He admits that the will to try literature happened very early in life, maybe because he always read a lot, but only when he went to work for CERN, in Switzerland, only when he found himself uprooted, he started to write as his first instinct. It was then he realized that writing is a place of creation and dialogue with himself. And that development in writing grew until it became the publication of his first novel, "No Meu Peito Não Cabem Pássaros". “The first book is very introspective. The questions are still very directed to myself: who am I? What is reserved for me? I took advantage of Pessoa and Borges for that exercise”. But he thinks the second book, the one who provided the LeYa Award, is “a glare turned to the outside, although caught in a building. It’s a reflective exercise about the problems and concerns of the characters. It is a book about regular people, the thing that interests me the most, maybe because the job of literature is to transform the common things into something else”, he stated. And I add: if you still haven’t read "Debaixo de Algum Céu" you should.
